Michael S. Gerton, Esq.

A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law and the Institute of Special Education Advocacy at the William and Mary Law School, Michael Gerton's practice is focused on defending the rights of students and families in school discipline and special education matters across all levels and age groups. He routinely provides representation to clients in Maryland and the District of Columbia who have encountered suspensions, expulsions, academic sanctions and other disciplinary issues from elementary school all the way through postsecondary (college and graduate) settings. He also delivers services related to Child Find, IEPs, manifestation determinations, state complaints, mediation and administrative (due process) hearings.

Prior to joining the firm Mr. Gerton served as an Associate with the Paynter Law Firm, PLLC in Washington, D.C., where he worked on behalf of classes of students (collegiate athletes) in various intellectual property, antitrust and consumer protection actions, including seminal sports cases In re: NCAA Student-Athlete Name & Likeness Licensing Litigation, Agnew v. NCAA, Rock v. NCAA and Lightbourne v. Printroom.

In addition to donating pro bono legal services to groups such as Xtraordinary Minds and Disability Rights Maryland Mr. Gerton also serves on the board of directors of the nonprofit Team Up For 1. His professional memberships include: the American Bar Association, Maryland State Bar Association, Bar Association of the District of Columbia, Bar Association of Montgomery County, Learning Disabilities Association and COPAA.
